SF Environment’s Virtual Warehouse is an online materials exchange system for surplus items among San Francisco City Departments. The Virtual Warehouse supports San Francisco's commitment to waste reduction and environmental protection. City Departments must lead by example by reducing waste, reusing, recycling, composting and buying products with recycled content. Since 2004, the Virtual Warehouse diverted over 720 tons from the landfill with items valued at over $6 million dollars and recycled over 5000 tons of scrap metal, generating over $400,000 for the City.
